FAQS
Eyelash Extensions
Eyelash extensions are not for everyone. This beauty treatment requires time and gentle care for the lashes to remain in good condition and be long-lasting. Please read and understand all the information listed below prior to booking an appointment.
What Are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic eyelashes. At EYE LUSH we only use two main lash extension techniques of applying extensions that are safer and healthier for your natural lashes. For a classic set, extensions are attached one-by-one to each individual natural eyelash— not to the skin. For a volume set (a.k.a Russian volume or 3D), they can be 2-6 extremely lightweight lashes, customized into a fan, and then glued on to ONE natural eyelash. Similarly, for megavolume, the customized fans consist of 6-12 lashes. To see the difference, please check out our gallery section. This service is beauty enhancing and eliminates the need to wear mascara. It is a meticulous service which requires the skill and precision of a certified lash technician. All EYE LUSH staff is certified with multiple certifications, teaching, and experiences. We are all also state licensed beauticians.
What Are Extensions Made of?
Lash extensions come in different types of materials. At EYE LUSH, we only carry synthetic lashes. We don't believe in using real mink or any animal products. Authentic mink fur is generally expensive, does not hold its curl, the sizes are not reliable, and we are against animal cruelty. Importantly, using synthetic lashes reduces the chance of developing an allergy.
What Lash Design Is Good for Me?
Every eye shape is as unique as our clients. We work with our clients to customize a design that fits their life style and enhances their beauty. EYE LUSH's lashes come in 10 different lengths (6-15mm), 7 different thickness (0.03-0.18mm), and 5 different curvatures (J, B, C, D, L). We combine these variables to create any design fitting for round eyes, almond eyes, hooded eyes, Asian eyes, protruding eye, etc. Clients can bring their own designs or we can recommend a design that would complement their features, lifestyle, and lash health.
How Long Will My Single-strand Eyelash Extensions Last If I Follow the Proper Care Instructions?
In some cases, eyelash extensions can last up to 8 weeks. However, it is common to get a touch up after 2-4 weeks to maintain a full and thick lash set. Like all hair, there are 3 phases to the eyelash growth cycle. Your eyelash cycle is 4-12 weeks. Please don't be alarmed if your lashes fall out quickly because they are mostly likely at the end of their cycle. Lifestyle, health, and types of medications clients are taking may also affect how long your lashes last. The majority of extensions will stay through a complete cycle if you follow EYE LUSH's after care guidelines. At refills, we generally take out the old extensions on the lashes that have already grown out. This process is time consuming; however, it prevents extensions from sagging, twisting and changing from the intended design.
Do Lash Extensions Damage My Natural Eyelashes?
If applied correctly, they should not damage your natural lashes. Lash extension(s) is adhered to one single natural lash, which will grow out naturally as your own lashes mature. The eyelash adhesive is formulated to create a solid bond, specifically for human lashes. The adhesive dries very soft on the lashes, allowing the lashes to stay flexible and bouncy just like your own lashes. We will recommend the lash thickness or number of fans that are healthy for your lashes.
Do I Need to Take a Break from Lash Extensions?
If followed EYE LUSH's after care, you shouldn't need to take a break from getting refills. We recommend clients getting a new set only if their lashes are coated with debris from make-up, dead skin, etc. If their natural lashes are generally thin and sparse, we recommend using a lash serum while wearing extensions.
What Should I Do Before My Eyelash Extension Appointment?
Remove all eye makeup and clean your lashes with mild oil-free cleanser. Do not put on any mascara prior to your appointment. The cleaner your lashes, the less time we need to clean and more time to apply new extensions.
What Does the Lash Session Consist of?
We consult on a lash design if you are a new client, then we clean your lashes, remove grown out extensions, and add new extensions. Each session is accompanied with a specific duration. After a few sessions, you will get to know when is the right to come back for a refill as well as which refill to book.
What Happens If a Lash Should Loosen or Become Dislodged?
Do not pull on the lash. Please contact us to make an appointment to have them removed or replaced, in order to avoid damage to your natural lash. As your natural lashes fall out due to the growth cycle, you will need refills when your new lashes grow in.
Is the Application Painful?
Not at all! The entire procedure is very comfortable and relaxing. Most clients fall asleep during the session. You can bring your ipod to listen to your favorite music or podcast! We recommend putting your phone on silent and bringing a set of headphones if you are expecting a call to minimize disruption during the procedure.
What Is a Good Lash vs Bad Lash Job?
Good Lash Job
Can brush through.
No evidence of glue.
Lashes are properly isolated with a ratio of 1 natural lash to 1-12 extensions depending on the strength and health of the lash.
Should be light and feels like you are not wearing lashes.
There is a coherent lash design customized to your eye shape and life style.
Bad Lash Job
Lashes pointing in different directions.
Heavy, itchy, painful.
Extensions are glued on multiple natural lashes.
Too much glue, you can see the glue, and you can't brush through.
Extensions and natural lashes fall out in clumps.
I'm a New Client. Can I Get a Lash Refill? #1
If you are coming to us from another lash artist and need a refill, we may recommend lash extension removal. We will not refill if your lashes are:
Pointing in different directions.
Extensions that are too thick or damaging to your natural lashes.
Have significant growth from the lash base.
Have too much glue.
Natural lashes are glued together.
You have less than 40% of the extensions left.
I'm a New Client. Can I Get a Lash Refill? #2
Please be conscious of the time involved in getting a new set and a removal. We strongly suggest that you do not remove lashes yourself so you do not damage your natural lashes. The more natural lashes you have, the more extensions we can apply.
Removal is $40, and $1/minute if the process takes longer than 30 minutes.
Lash removal is $20 if it's accompanied with a new set.
Current clients are free.
How Do I Care for My Extensions?
For the first 24-48 hours:
Do not allow lashes to get wet or be exposed to extreme moisture.
Do not swim during the curing time.
First 2 days
Avoid hot showers, saunas or cooking in a steamy kitchen. Steam will affect the glue, stopping it from bonding properly. Avoid being near heat, even a lighter.
Do not rub, perm, or tint lashes before or after lash extension application.
Do not pull or rub your lash extensions–as you are likely to pull out your natural lash with it.
Do not use mascara on your volume lashes.
You can use mascara on classic lashes. If you must use mascara, avoid putting mascara at the base of the extensions. Never wear water-proof mascara, asretention will suffer and if present during refill it will be the cause of a weak bond.
Do not try to remove the extensions on your own.
Do not cut your extensions–you risk cutting your natural lashes. Set up an appointment, if you need to remove your extensions.
Avoid oil-based make-up/products around the eyes.
Oil breaks down the adhesive and cause lashes to slip off. Use oil-free make-up and make-up removals, especially before coming for a fill.
Avoid sleeping face-down on lashes.
Limit use of gel and liquid eyeliner.
The ingredients will ruin the bond of your lashes. Protect your investment. Powder liner is recommended.
If you exercise, wash your extensions straight after the gym session.
Come back regularly for in fills (3-4 weeks is best, unless advised differently.)
Always start your appointment with squeaky clean eyelashes. Makeup residue will only act as a guard and prevent the glue from adhering properly. Over time, if you are not able to keep your lashes free from residues, we recommend starting a brand new set after 5-6 refills because of possible remaining dirt and adhesive attaching to the natural lashes. Your artists may make the recommendation if needed.
How Do I Wash My Extensions?
Important!! After at least 24-48 hour waiting period, you can clean your lashes daily, especially if you regularly wear make-up. Your lashes are like hair. Keeping them clean will prevent infection. Dirt, dead skin cells and oil buildup can accumulate and clog up your pores, leaving your natural lashes, weak, thin, and fall off prematurely. Remember- you are the boss of your gorgeous healthy lashes!
Do not rub your eyes or lashes when washing your face.
Clean around the eyes with a wash cloth, cotton pads or eye pads.
Use fingertips, micro tip swabs, or silicone round/wedges (no cotton) to apply a foaming lash shampoo to the lashes using gentle, upward strokes and rinse well with tepid water.
Carefully dab off excess water with a towel or paper towel.
Fan or blow dry your lashes in cool settings.
Brush lashes as needed. Don't brush while wet. Wait until dry then brush.
Our mission is to deliver premium lash services that are safe and luxurious. We commit to dedicated care of your natural lashes and superior quality. We welcome you to experience our difference.
